Cantor Laura Berman is thrilled to have returned to her hometown of Pittsburgh to be a member of the clergy team at Temple Sinai. She works to create an inviting, energetic, and accessible atmosphere during Shabbat and holiday services that blend a range of musical styles. Having a love for teaching, she manages and works with every student in our b’nei mitzvah program, helping to nurture confident and competent students who can reach new heights in their skills. She has extensive experience officiating and co-officiating at a full range of lifecycle events, leads choirs of children, teens, and adults, and has created family worship, education, and celebration opportunities including a T’u Bishvat seder, our annual Purim spiel, and our Latke-Hamentashen debate.
Cantor Berman is a graduate of the H.L. Miller Cantorial School of The Jewish Theological Seminary where she studied in Jerusalem and New York, earned a Masters in Sacred Music and a Diploma of Hazzan, and was the recipient of several awards including the Richard H. Holzer Memorial Prize, awarded to a graduating senior who demonstrates excellence in Judaica. She earned a Masters in Jewish Education from the Seminary’s William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education. This follows a successful career in banking and finance, having earned an MBA from The Wharton School. She is the kvelling mother of Sam.
