Sara Stock Mayo, Cantorial Soloist & Chaplain
Sara Stock Mayo serves as Temple Sinai’s Musical Director and Congregational Chaplain. She has taken a lead role in expanding the music program at Temple Sinai since joining the congregation in 2003. In addition to sharing her voice with us each week from the bimah, Sara works closely with the Intergenerational Choir, which includes congregants of all ages, supervises the music program for the Religious School and directs the Kids’ Choir.
After instituting the “Mostly Musical” Shabbat services, Sara helped develop the Congregational Band, inviting interested members of Temple Sinai to come together as a group and participate in the popular monthly musical services.
Previously, Sara served as Cantorial Soloist of Congregation Kolot Chayeinu in Brooklyn, New York. She has also organized youth choral activities for the School for Advanced Jewish Studies here in Pittsburgh.
Sara earned a BFA in Musical Theatre from Syracuse University and an MA in Drama Therapy from New York University. She has worked with youth-at-risk in both Pittsburgh and New York, taught and directed theatre in multiple settings and worked as a therapist with adult mentally ill patients as well as seniors. Sara completed training at UPMC Montefiore through the College of Clinical and Pastoral Education in 2010. A lifelong musician, Sara continues to study voice with Kathy Soroka.
